What You Don’t Do With That Smartphone Could Save Your Life!

Over the last decade the term “distracted driver” has become synonymous with texting and driving. And with the proliferation of so-called smart phones now those distracted drivers are busy replying to comments and posts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat and the host of other social networks, or making videos of themselves while driving.

Drivers who knowingly disregard the law and text, or check social media or even try to make videos while driving are putting not only their lives on the line, but also the lives of any passengers in the vehicle. And let’s not forget that these drivers who are so preoccupied with their phones are also putting other drivers on the road in danger.

Why do I share this information? I share it because even though the law states the use of cellular devices by a driver while operating a motor vehicle is illegal in most states. Here in Indiana the law is clear in that it bans cell phone use (handheld and hands free) by novice drivers and bans all ages of drivers from texting.

Now you might be wondering how police officers enforce such a law when there are so many drivers using their phones. Well Indiana’s cell phone and texting laws are considered primary laws. That means that an officer can pull you over and issue a ticket without having to witness another violation. That’s right it’s a tough law! And it’s designed to keep the roads safer.
