Truck Crashes and Safety Regulations

Transcript: Hi, I’m David Holub. Many of our cases involve injuries sustained during crashes involving a semi-truck, or what some people may call and eighteen wheeler. Car truck collisions often lead to serious and permanent injuries. Large trucks can weigh 80,000 pounds or more. Heavy vehicles cannot stop as quickly as smaller lighter vehicles. Moreover, when a heavy vehicle strikes a lighter vehicle, physics dictates that the brunt of the force will be felt by the occupants of the smaller vehicle. Consequently, Department of Transportation regulations exist that focus on reducing driver fatigue and making sure that vehicles are properly maintained. We have pursued many trucking companies for violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including those regulations that require screening of drivers before putting them behind the wheel. Did you know that least once every twelve months must review their drivers for safety violations relative to driving any type of vehicle? Did you know that motor carriers must give great weight to driving and moving violations, such as speeding and reckless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did you know that the brakes systems of semi-tractor trailers must be designed so that even if a single part malfunctions, the system or brakes must still operate and bring the truck to a stop within a specified distance? Did you know that every motor carrier is obligated to inspect, maintain, and repair every vehicle under its control? If you or a loved one have been involved in a collision with a semi-truck or eighteen wheeler, we can help provide guidance and assistance. Please consult an attorney with experience dealing with the complexities of such a case.
