Sorry, Our Number Was Spoofed!

Recently, we have been inundated with calls from upset citizens in and around the Merrillville area.  All calling because they are mad that we have been calling them. …  They are shocked to learn when we explain that we didn’t call them, and that our number has most likely been spoofed by scammers.

These nuisance callers copy the outbound caller ID of a local business, in this case ours, and use it in a nefarious way to trick those answering such calls into giving up certain information, such as; name, credit card numbers, social security identification numbers or even insurance information. Maybe they pretend to be a collection agency, or will say that you are the beneficiary of something that requires verifiable information from you. … Some nuisance callers offer low interest credit card rates, electric services, home improvements and medical equipment that all turn out to be phony scams.

If you received what appeared to be a call from us and you have not engaged with us in the past or have a current pending case with us, the call most likely was from a scammer spoofing our number.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and know that we are actively trying to rectify this problem so our number isn’t spoofed again.

Unfortunately, this is a growing epidemic and it’s not just affecting our business. It’s also affecting millions of businesses across the nation as they also try to cope with angry callers wanting answers.

If these scammers call you, you can either let the call go to voicemail, try to get as much information as you can from them without giving away your own personal information or simply hang up. It’s your choice. If you answer, the callers now know it’s a live number and they will continue to call. Since most of these scammers rely on automatic dialing systems, those who don’t pick up or who let the call go to voicemail are usually deleted from future calls.
