Do Motor Carrier Regulations Cover Farm and Agriculture Trucks

Agricultural truck operators must comply with key requirements of the FMCSR. Minimally, they must check brake operation, tires, and ensuring good operational order.

However, many states exempt agricultural transportation vehicles from the more demanding Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

To qualify for an exemption the agricultural use vehicle must be controlled and operated by a farmer. And, the truck must be used to transport agricultural products, farm machinery, or farm supplies to or from a farm.
