Forklift Construction Site Accidents

Forklifts are basically powered industrial trucks that are used to move materials in warehouse type environments.  The most common hazards present with powered industrial trucks, includes inadvertently driving the truck off a loading dock, or workers being struck by a truck, or a loading accident such as a tip over, or material falling on a worker. Key steps must be taken to arrange for a safe work environment:

  • Effective operator training and certification to operate specific vehicles
  • Regular inspections prior to operating a forklift or other industrial truck, putting defective equipment out of use until repaired
  • Requiring the use of seat belts
  • Requiring the use of movement warning alarms, such as backup warning alarms
