Fireworks Safety Tips

The recent news story of a 22 year old Maine man who had reportedly been drinking with friends before he decided to launch a firework off his head and was instantly killed is a sad reminder of how dangerous fireworks are and how important it is to use utmost care when dealing with them.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, each year there are tens of thousands of reported injuries sustained from fireworks and over the years, our law firm has handled several cases with fireworks-related injuries.

When using fireworks, keep in mind you are dealing with a form of explosive and always follow recommended safety precautions. Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind: (1) never let children handle, play with, or light any fireworks, (2) do not alter any fireworks devices, (3) never smoke when handling fireworks, (4) do not try to re-light or “fix” any “dud” firework, and (5) do not use fireworks when intoxicated.
